Why blog?

Why start an online diary, for potentially all the world to see? Didn't it used to be that people would keep private journals, their most intimate thoughts contained within, the words meant for their eyes only - but times change! Human beings are naturally sociable creatures, perhaps summed up no better than below:

We cannot live for ourselves alone. Our lives are connected by a thousand invisible threads, and along these sympathetic fibers, our actions run as causes and return to us as results.
Herman Melville

In other words, there is a part of all us that likes to be heard, for others to read our ideas and opinions, and spark something off within themselves - whether it be admiration or something more conflictual. Blogging is the perfect medium for expressing yourself. Be it to a select few through private posts, or to as wide an audience as possible - blogging can cater to both ends of the spectrum, and everything inbetween!

Ok, but why else?

How many times have you had a good idea, only to end up wondering just what it was that had got you so excited 24 hours previously! Writing a blog can help you to keep organised, a place to jot down those important thoughts and ideas for later use. You need not display your inner using to everyone, if you prefer you can keep your blog posts private.

Whether you're a developer who wants to keep track of a myriad of thoughts, or just someone who likes to write things down, blogging is one way to assist you, making it a very personalised experience.

Hmmm, i see...

Ah, still not convinced? Did you know that blogging can actually be a great way to socialise and meet new people? We've aready discussed "getting your ideas out there" and being heard, but that isn't all there has to be to the art of blogging if you don't want it to be. If you have a desire to build up new contacts who share a particular interest of yours, blogging will help them to find you. Friendship through blogging, now there's a thought...

Ah, that makes sense...

It does? That's good! And you know, there are many other reasons people blog, some of those reasons might appeal to you also. Blogging is a great tool for writers - if you have that creative spark within you, why not let it out through a blog. Some of the best articles are produced when you haven't got a plan concerning what you're going to write; you start in one place, and finish somewhere you'd never even imagined - not a bad journey either!

Blogging can help people to understand more about themselves, the world around them, and other people. The only limits are those you impose on yourself. If you have yet to try out blogging for yourself, maybe it's time you did. And if you are already a blogger, well, ask yourself whether you would like just one more blog - for a different interest, a different side of you - and then start writing!

If you want some other reasons to blog, how about - making money, building links, driving traffic to other websites, writing fantasy fiction, a way to relieve frustration or boredom - the list goes on.

Why not give it a try!
